Professor Deborah Falla, Chair in Rehabilitation Science & Physiotherapy and Director, Centre of Precision Rehabilitation for Spinal pain, is holding her inaugural lecture on 18th April 2018.

Neck pain is common. Following a first episode of neck pain there is a high chance of recurrence which may extend over a lifetime. Neuromuscular adaptations are an expected reaction to pain but can be unique to each individual. Although these adaptations may have a short term benefit by acting to protect a painful neck, in the longer term such alterations become maladaptive and can contribute to the recurrence of symptoms.

This inaugural lecture will describe the role of exercise for the management of neck pain and the need for personalised exercise interventions to facilitate recovery of neuromuscular function and prevention of ongoing pain.
