Mental Health Competition

The NIHR Trauma MIC is running a competition as part of its new Mental Health (PTSD) workstream. This has been funded to accelerate the development and introduction of medical-device based solutions in the prevention and management of the psychological impact of traumatic physical injury or surgery. This workstream is co-led by Prof Jonathan Bisson and Prof Alan Finnegan.

The competition invites applications for medical devices/ technologies addressing the prevention and/ or management of the psychological impact of traumatic physical injury. Any medical device-based solution for any psychological impact of traumatic physical injury or surgery will be considered. Up to three projects will be awarded in-kind support to the value of £15,000. Applications are encouraged from UK SME’s and individuals working for either HEIs or NHS Trusts.

The support includes, but is not limited to, the below:

  • Patient and Public Involvement members feedback
  • Expert review of the technology by relevant clinicians/service users
  • Formative usability study conducted in MD-TEC
  • Medical device regulatory support
  • Health economics work
  • Evidence generation to support NHS uptake of technology

Shortlisted applications will be invited to interview on 25th August 2022. It is anticipated that successful projects will start in November 2022 Please find the briefing document below with more information.
