Getting Started in Research Event: PPIE Presentation

The NIHR Trauma MIC had a presence in March’s ‘Getting Started in Research’ event, hosted within Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham’s Postgraduate Centre. The audience consisted of Midwives, Nurses, Allied Health Professionals, Pharmacists and Health Scientists considering a clinical academic career. This is part of a wider Clinical Academic Internship Programme (CAIP) which is a 30-day programme over six months designed for health professionals who aspire to undertake academic research at a Masters level. This is the first step onto the HEE/NIHR Integrated Clinical Academic Programme for non-medical healthcare professionals

The programme included a variety of topic areas from research career structures, research governance, grant writing and the publication of research findings. The NIHR Trauma MIC’s Programme Manager, Tom Rollinson, presented a piece on patient & public involvement and engagement (PPIE). Experiences of engaging patients, carers and the public within research were shared, along with tips on best practice deriving from INVOLVE:
