UHBFT has 1213 inpatient beds, 36 operating theatres and a 100-bed critical care unit. The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB) is one of 27 Major Trauma Centres (MTCs) in England, and hosts the NIHR Surgical Reconstruction and Microbiology Research Centre (SRMRC) and NIHR Trauma Management Healthcare Technology Co-operative (TMHTC), in addition to other established NIHR infrastructure. This provides the MIC access to patient cohorts, clinical information systems (UHBFT is a designated Global Digital Exemplar site), clinical expertise, research staff and facilities, NIHR infrastructure, and the European Regional Development Fund Medical Devices Testing and Evaluation Centre (MD-TEC).
